How a form with no server still works
You build it here
Every edit is kept in your browser’s storage. Undo and redo cover the last 60 changes, and Save adds it to “My forms” on this device.
The link carries the form
“Share link” compresses the form into the URL fragment — the part after
#. Browsers don’t send fragments to servers, so the form travels without being uploaded.Answers go where you say
Respondents finish on a screen with their answers and a one-tap “Email answers” button, or the form posts straight to your own endpoint.
What’s deliberately missing
No response dashboard, no file uploads, no payments. Each needs a server holding other people’s data, which is exactly what FormCraft avoids. If you need those, export the HTML and connect it to a service built for that job.
Why the link can get long
A ten-question form packs into roughly 400–900 characters. The fragment is squeezed with the same deflate compression used in ZIP files: labels that repeat (“Strongly agree”, “Option A”) shrink the most. Hidden machinery like this is more fun laid bare; ahaboo does the same for the night sky, with a narrated explainer on why the Moon shows phases.
Questions people ask
Is FormCraft really free with no signup?
Yes. There is no account system at all — you open the page and build. Forms are saved in your browser’s local storage on your device, and you can export them any time.
Where are my forms stored?
In your browser, on your device (localStorage). Nothing is uploaded to FormCraft. Clearing your browser data deletes them, so export a JSON backup of anything important.
How do I share a form without an account?
Press “Share link”. The whole form is compressed into the part of the link after the #, which browsers never send to a server. Anyone who opens it gets a fill-in page.
How do I get the responses?
FormCraft doesn’t store responses — that would need a server and accounts. You choose: add your email so respondents can send answers in one tap, point the form at your own endpoint (your server, Formspree, Basin, Netlify Forms), or export the HTML into a site that already handles forms.
Can I export my form as HTML?
Yes. Export → HTML embed gives accessible, dependency-free markup with optional CSS and a tiny multi-step script. You can also export FormCraft JSON (to re-import later), a JSON Schema of the answers, or print to PDF.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes. On small screens the field list turns into an “Add a field” menu, fields reorder with the arrow buttons or by dragging the handle, and Preview shows exactly what respondents will see.
